A fanciful self-portrait utilizing a grid format made from hundreds of painting reproduction fragments (1.5 x 1.5 inches), primarily 17th, 18th and 19th century portraits and landscapes. The intention is to suggest that a sense of being and consciousness of self emerges or coalesces from one's surroundings: the natural world and the world of culture (nominally represented here in Western terms).
